![]() TYLER STAR NEWS The Tyler Star News is a weekly newspaper published every Wednesday and delivered to subscribers through the United States mail and to customers through newsstands. The circulation is 4,113 and is distributed in Tyler and Wetzel counties in West Virginia and Monroe County in Ohio. "The News", "The Star" and the "Tyler County News" newspapers were merged in the early 1930's to form what is now the present day Tyler Star News. In 1954 the Tyler Star New was leased to Adam R. Kelly, who later purchased the paper and oversaw daily operations as owner/managing editor. Best known for his syndicated column "The Country Editor", Kelly was a well loved, outspoken advocate of all issues dealing with the promotion of Tyler County. Ogden Newspapers, Inc., purchased the Tyler Star News in May 1979. Kelly relinquished his position as editor, which he had held for 25 years, and became editor emeritus. Kelly passed away in 1990. Throughout the years the Tyler Star News staff has won several awards from the West Virginia Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest. In 2004 the Tyler Star News brought home 15 awards, earning them the third place general excellence award in Division Five for weeklies with circulations between 3,000 and 4,999. The Tyler Star News earned three first place awards the same year: Best Written News Story by Amy Witschey, Best Photography--Sports by Judy Light; and Best Photo Illustration by Light and Witschey. They also won nine second place awards and three third place awards. Community Resources May 17, 2012 Beginning April 5, Community Resources, Inc. will be at the Family Resource Network.
