A Gap in Coverage

I welcome criticism because it helps me to become a better editor and ultimately a better person. To those who are disappointed with the Tyler Star News, please accept my humble apology.

As the editor, my job is to serve the communities — all of the communities — in Tyler County. The newspaper is not merely something that I get paid to publish, it is something that I truly love.

We all know how easy it is to get information in this day and age. At the click of a mouse you can find almost anything on the Internet. Likewise, most television newscasts are able to scoop the county paper in a matter of minutes. The Tyler Star News will rarely serve the people of Tyler County as a means for breaking news in an era where information is so readily available. Instead, we are commissioned to write and say what other media outlets don’t. And, we are poised to report the news on a small, but vitally important level — the county level.

While it pains me to know that I have let my community down by failing to report from all corners of the county, I am grateful to those who stepped up to let me know something was missing. In the coming weeks, I will do my best to find story ideas that will entertain and inform the county as a whole.

I realize this will not appease everyone, but please know that I am trying. I hear your voices loud and clear, and I will do what is necessary to address the “coverage gaps” immediately.
