| | Jim's DreamOctober 2, 2009 - Jo Anne JungMy husband has a dream. He wants to be a “carney”. Not in the sense that he wants to push the start button on the Tilt-A-Whirl every three minutes, but more like he wants us to buy an RV, pack up the dogs, and travel all across this great nation to fairs and festivals selling our wares. What wares? Well, I can’t say here, but trust me, they’re fantastic! Anyway, he has this dream. And who am I to stand in his way? In fact, I took a vow to love, honor, and cherish. In my mind that also means stand beside, support and encourage. The very idea of a married couple being together 24/7 may sound like a nightmare to some, but we find the idea exciting. Weird, maybe, but that’s how we are. I can clearly see us cruising down the highway, off to some small town that only the locals know about, going to yet another Harvest Festival, Christmas in the Summer festival, or the popular Road kill Festival. Yes, there is such a thing, and NO, I don’t intend to eat anything there if we should ever go. But hey, we’d be together, selling our merchandise, and having a good time. We’ve gone to a few fairs - with a minivan - not an RV, and we’ve really enjoyed ourselves. We’ve met the nicest people. It’s amazing how you can get to know someone when you have a table set up next to theirs. We’ve gotten some really good advice. We’ve given some really good advice. And we’ve made friends. One thing that cracks me up though, Jim loves to nickname people. Not anything mean, just a way for him to remember. For example, there’s Vegetable Man, the Honey Guy, Tupperware Tammy, Olive Branch Tammy, Jewelry Girl, and Quilt Lady. He may not remember everyone’s actual name, but if I say that I saw Quilt Lady, he knows exactly who I’m talking about. At our most recent fair, we met Ginny. Yes, she has a real name. However, we can’t remember her husband’s name to save our souls! We should have given him a nickname. But back to the RV. We don’t own one, so if you know of a decent one for sale, let me know. Nothing too big, as my backing up skills leave a lot to be desired, and I don’t want to be responsible for taking out a house or two. Not too big and flashy, sort of a cross between a superstar’s bus and Cousin Eddie’s RV in Christmas Vacation. Anyway, we’re still at the planning stage. We know we want to keep our house, but we don’t want it to sit empty for an extended period of time. Plus, we’d have to be making a lot more money than we are now in order for this to work. But that’s the dream. Perhaps it’ll come true. Perhaps it won’t. In the meantime, we’ll keep dreaming. PoopSandwichesOct-07-09 3:08 AM Carneys are cool. (except for that one who was in Wilson Phillips back in the 90s. She was kinda strange). But I digress...I think Jim's mindset is right on!!! And hey, if you get board there's always the tilt-a-whirl. eljudeOct-04-09 6:00 PM Ahhh, I understand this mindset perfectly. At one time or another we've all wanted to travel the U.S. in an RV and see this great country with our own eyes. But then again, I also think that I might enjoy pushing the button to start the Tilt-A-Whirl every three minutes. Oh well, once a "carney dreamer" always a "carney dreamer"!!!
